BTW.  You are wise to be timid of the internet.  My life is an open book, because I started using the internet in 1992, before I realized anything I posted would be available forever.  I have had one person try to steal my identity and more just try and cause problems.  I suggest to be cautious, and only post what you won't mind seeing published in a newspaper.
